The Ultimate Back-to-School Prep Guide for Parents:

With FREE Downloadable Checklist and School Supplies List (By Grade & School)

Hey Parents!

It’s that time of year…again–it’s Back-to-school Season!  Whether you’re getting your little one ready for their first day of kindergarten or helping your tween leap into middle school. These final summer days always seem to feel a bit crammed, and suddenly, there is just not enough time.

This time of year, it’s juggling,

  • Stress-shopping for back-to-school while sorting through school supply lists by grade
  • Battling the drama of bedtime routine changes
  • Debating the age-old question: school lunch or packed lunch–what are quick healthy and lunchbox options?
  • And squeezing in last-minute appointments

—all while trying to soak up those last moments of summer. We get it, it’s a lot! It can even make the most seasoned school prep pros feel overwhelmed.

So we put together this Ultimate Back-to-School Prep Guide for Parents. To help make this time feel just a little bit less stressful, hair remains intact, and hopefully, with fewer “teeth-pulling” moments!–metaphorically. And of course, we wouldn’t be Dental Care Kids if we didn’t sprinkle in a few helpful dental tips along the way.

Free back to school downloads throughout, and read to the end for how to enter the Back-to-School Giveaway.

Back-to-School Supply Lists by Grade:
Plan Ahead & Shop Smart

  1. Don’t wait until the aisles are crowded or the shelves are bare. (… we know, easier said than done!)
  2. Review each supply list early – identify items you can reuse.
  3. During regular grocery runs, grab a few of the basics—notebooks, pencils, pens, and binders. Especially trendy supplies that tend to vanish quickly!

Parent Pro Tip: Have more than one supply list by grade??  Compare and condense those lists! It’ll help reduce the number of items to sort through. Many items on these lists are the same; it’s the few extras that get added as they level up.

To get you started, here are common school supplies by grade—plus a few extra tips you’ll probably wish were on the list.

Kindergarten:

Most-Listed Must-Haves: Crayons, washable markers, notebooks, folders, a backpack, and a lunchbox.

Parent Hack: Always send a change of clothes! A lot can happen in a school day.

Many kindergartens require a signed dental checkup form. Recommendation: Book early so you’re not scrambling days before school starts or competing for preferred appointments during the last-minute back-to-school rush.

Elementary School:

You can expect the basics: crayons, colored pencils, glue sticks, loose-leaf paper, and highlighters. It’s also a good idea to include a pack of personal hand sanitizer and mini tissue packs that your child can keep in their desk and backpacks.

Did You Know?!: You should replace your toothbrush every few months—old ones can spread bacteria, preventing a thorough brushing and increasing your risk for cavities. (yikes!)

Middle School:

These supply lists come with a few new twists compared to what you’re used to. You might find USB drives, calculators, and sometimes computers added. Middle school also brings a new level of independence, so planners are a must-have. (They’ll want to keep track of their dental appointments!)

During this time, kids lose the last of their baby teeth, gain permanent ones, and start brushing more independently (though let’s be honest—how well are they brushing?). It’s also a key time for orthodontic evaluations, especially if your child hasn’t had one yet.

2. Don’t Forget Dental Checkups–Book Early!

When booking appointments, don’t forget to add Dental Checkups to the list!  That means you, too, parents! When was the last time you saw the dentist?

  • Most schools (especially kindergarten) require proof of a recent dental visit
  • Booking in early August gives you more flexibility
  • It prevents mid-year surprises like painful cavities or infections.

Time-Saving Tip: Schedule your dental checkups together! One trip, one day, two clean smiles—yours and theirs. It’s a great way to start the school year with healthy habits. Parents, we have an all adult exclusive department right on the 3rd floor at Dental Care Stamford.

For Ages 7-12: Don’t skip checkups! Your Pediatric dental team works closely with our orthodontists to monitor development and step in early if treatment is needed. Early care often means a smoother orthodontic journey with better results and less discomfort later on. Pro tip: Book their evaluation before school starts, giving you more time to plan.

3. Sleep Schedule Reset: Less “Teeth-pulling” and More ‘You Time’

Resetting is no small feat. Here are some suggested ways to smooth the transition:

  • Move bedtime earlier by 15–30 minutes each night, starting at least a week out
  • Shut down screens an hour before bed– cue books or forgotten toys
  • Brush and floss before bed as part of their wind-down routine—it clears away the day’s food and bacteria, and helps set the tone for healthy habits.
  • Avoid sugary snacks or juice before bed (they hype kids up and the sugar sits on their teeth all night—no thanks, cavities!)

4. Easy School Lunch Ideas That Are Tooth-Friendly

Landed on packed lunches? Here’s how to keep it simple, healthy, and smile-safe:

  • Turkey and cheese roll-ups
  • Fruit slices are a good option
  • Greek yogurt with granola
  • Water or milk (avoid added sugary juice like Kool-Aid and Capri-Suns)
  • Avoid sticky snacks—they cling to teeth and feed cavities

May is Dental Care Awareness Month: Why Dental Checkups Are Important

“My Child Brushes Every Day—Why Do They Still Need Checkups?”

Dental Care Kids in Stamford Explains Why Brushing Alone Isn’t Enough

As a parent, you work hard to instill healthy habits in your child—including daily brushing and flossing. So when your child’s smile ‘looks’ like it’s bright and cavity-free, you might ask: “If my child brushes every day, do they still need regular dental checkups?”

A question we often hear. The short answer….Absolutely!

Just brushing is not enough to keep your smile healthy. Even the best little brushers can’t catch everything. Plaque and food debris love to hide in places toothbrushes just can’t reach—especially between teeth and along the gumline. That’s why routine children’s dental checkups are so important.

At Dental Care Kids in Stamford, our pediatric dental specialists do much more than just clean teeth and fix cavities. Each visit is a chance to catch small problems early, monitor your child’s growth and bite alignment, and keep their smile healthy and happy for life.

Cavities Often Start Without Warning

Did you know that tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children? And most of the time, it starts without any symptoms—no pain, no visible signs, nothing you’d notice at home. So, when you think your child’s smile looks bright and cavity-free you might think their smile is healthy, but just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.

That’s why regular dental checkups are so important—we can catch cavities early, treat them while they’re still small, and prevent more serious problems. Left untreated, cavities can grow quickly, leading to more complex (and more stressful) procedures later.

By focusing on early detection and prevention, we help your child avoid pain, fear, and unnecessary dental work. And that makes every visit to the dentist a lot more positive—for you and your child.

More Than Just Cleanings: Monitoring Growing Smiles

Kids grow fast—and so do their teeth and jaws. At Dental Care Kids, we carefully track your child’s dental development at every visit. Our team checks for:

  • Bite alignment issues
  • Development of permanent teeth (adult teeth)
  • Jaw growth concerns
  • Proper spacing for adult teeth
  • Signs of habits like thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting

These are things most parents can’t spot at home—but we can.

Complimentary Orthodontic Evaluations:

Because growth and alignment matter so much, we make early orthodontic evaluations part of every child’s care. And here’s the best part: You don’t need to go anywhere else to get them!

Our trusted orthodontists are just in the office next door at Dental Care Orthodontics—right here at 1500 Summer Street in Stamford. If we see something that needs attention, your child can get a complimentary orthodontic consultation without leaving the building (or sometimes even their seat).

That means no extra appointments, no long waits, and no separate referrals. Just seamless, convenient care from some of the top orthodontists in Fairfield and Westchester County.

Your Kids Are Watching—When Did You Last Have a Checkup?

We know your child’s health comes first. But don’t forget: your dental health matters, too.

The same issues that affect kids—like cavities, gum problems, and plaque buildup—can be even more serious for adults. And when your schedule is packed with work, school drop-offs, activities, and everything else… it’s easy to put yourself last.

But here’s the thing: your kids are watching. When they see you take care of your own smile, they’ll want to take care of theirs, too.

That’s why we’ve made dental care easy for parents. In the same building as Dental Care Kids, we have Dental Care Stamford, our dedicated practice for adults– get the same great care, just one floor up! Have your checkup on the same day as your child, or schedule a time that works for you. We make family dental care in Stamford simple, convenient, and stress-free.

A Healthy Smile Continues At Dental Care Kids

Sure, your child brushes every day—and that’s a great start! But even superheroes need backup. That’s where your Super Dental Team at Dental Care Kids steps in.

We believe in building healthy habits early, catching small issues before they become big ones, and creating a dental experience where kids feel safe, confident, and even excited to visit. Don’t just take our word for it—hear it from one of our happy parents:

“Thanks to the Dental Care Kids team, my son actually enjoys going to the dentist!” – Charlett

5 Summer Dental Tips for Bright Smiles

Cavities Don’t Take Vacations! 5 Summer Tips for Bright Smiles at Dental Care Kids in Stamford, CT

Parents, summer vacation is finally here! With all the fun activities and trips, routines can get a bit jumbled, and getting your child to brush their teeth might seem challenging. Remember, cavities don’t take a break just because you do! To help keep those little smiles bright and cavity-free, here are five tips to prevent cavities this summer:

  1. Make It Fun: Turn brushing into a fun activity. Use colorful toothbrushes and flavored toothpaste, and play their favorite song for a two-minute brushing party. This makes brushing enjoyable and ensures they’re brushing long enough to keep those teeth clean.
  2. Create a Chart: Kids love rewards! Use a brushing chart with stickers as a reward for brushing twice a day. It’s a great way to make dental hygiene exciting and motivate them to stick to their routine, even during vacation.
  3. Pack Dental Essentials: Whether you’re heading to the beach or going camping, always pack a dental care kit. Include a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and a small bottle of mouthwash. This ensures your child can maintain their dental routine no matter where summer takes you.
  4. Healthy Snacks: Summer is full of tempting treats like ice cream and sugary drinks. Opt for healthier snacks like fruits, veggies, and cheese. These not only provide essential nutrients but also help in maintaining good dental health.
  5. Set a Good Example: Kids mimic what they see. Brush your teeth together to show the importance of maintaining dental hygiene. It’s a great bonding activity and reinforces the habit of brushing twice a day.

The Importance of Early Orthodontic Evaluation for Children: What Parents Need to Know

As parents, we always want what’s best for our children, especially when it comes to their health. One aspect of their health that often goes overlooked until later years is their dental health, particularly orthodontic care. However, early evaluation and intervention can make a significant difference in your child’s oral health and overall well-being.

Why Early Orthodontic Evaluation Matters:

  • Identifying Issues Early: Early orthodontic evaluation allows our experts at Dental Care Orthodontics to identify any potential issues with your child’s bite, jaw development, or tooth alignment before they become more serious problems.
  • Preventing Future Complications: Addressing orthodontic issues early can prevent more extensive and costly treatments later in life. It can also reduce the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and jaw problems.
  • Maximizing Treatment Effectiveness: Starting orthodontic treatment at the right time, when your child’s jaw and teeth are still developing, can lead to more effective and efficient results.
  • Boosting Confidence: A straight, healthy smile can significantly boost your child’s self-esteem and confidence, leading to better social interactions and overall happiness.

Baby teeth may be temporary, but their impact is long-lasting. Many parents think that since their children’s baby teeth eventually fall out, it is not necessary to take care of them or see a dentist. However that is far from the case!

Here are a few reasons why caring for your child’s baby teeth is crucial:

  • Speech Development: Baby teeth play a vital role in speech development, helping children learn to pronounce words correctly.
  • Proper Nutrition: Healthy baby teeth enable your child to chew properly, promoting good digestion and overall nutrition.
  • Space Maintenance: Baby teeth serve as placeholders for permanent teeth. Proper care ensures a healthy transition, preventing alignment issues in the future.
  • Confidence Boost: A bright, healthy smile boosts your child’s confidence and self-esteem, setting the stage for positive social interactions.
  • Regular Dental Visits: Helps establish positive, healthy associations with their dental health and their dental teams. Schedule your visit today

Grateful Grins: 4 Thanksgiving Hacks for Instilling Healthy Dental Habits in Your Kids

Ah, the season of Thanksgiving! A time for family, giving thanks, feasts, and giggles. Dental Care Kids is here to remind you while you are on your journey of gratitude, not just for turkey and mash but for the healthy grins of your kiddos. It’s not just talk; we have 4 fun Thanksgiving-themed hacks to help parents get those budding teeth on the healthy track. After all, what’s better than a grateful heart? A grateful heart with a sparkling smile!

This season, let’s carve out smiles as delightful as Thanksgiving turkeys! Try these 4 fun-filled ways to ensure your child’s dental habits are as sweet as pumpkin pie. 🥧

1. Harvest Healthy Snacking:

Make eating fun with creative ways that make healthy foods appear delicious

Thanksgiving is a feast for the senses, but that doesn’t mean our teeth should suffer. We know kids tend to go straight for the sugary treats because they look fun and delicious. Unfortunately nutritious foods  don’t always appear very enticing to eat.  So instead make healthy eating fun by creating creative snacks that look like cartoons.

2. Turkey Trot Toothbrush Time:

🎵🎵 In the spirit of Thanksgiving, turn toothbrushing into a fun-filled “Turkey Trot” dance party. Play your child’s favorite tunes and encourage them to brush for the entire song. It’s a joyful way to make dental care a happy habit

encourage healthy dental habits by leaving gratitude-filled sticky notes from the tooth fairy on the bathroom mirrors for the kids to see

3. Thankful Tooth Fairy Notes:

Sprinkle a little dental magic by introducing “Thankful Tooth Fairy” notes. Each time your child practices good dental habits, leave a note from the Thankful Tooth Fairy expressing gratitude for their commitment to healthy teeth. Watch their smiles light up with joy!

4. Keep up with Regular Dental Checkups

Show your teeth some gratitude by keeping up with regular dental checkups! Your teeth are like superheroes, fighting off grime and helping you chomp down on your favorite snacks. Give them the care they deserve with dental cleanings and checkups at least 2 times a year! Your teeth will thank you forever!

Dental Care Kids Planting Trees for Earth Day

YOUR NEW EARTH DAY TREE:

Many years ago, Dr. Simon’s son, Brent, got a baby tree on Earth day at school. They planted it in their yard and after a few years it got so big that they had to move it to a new spot where it is now.  Of course that was a long time ago and now it is literally 40 feet tall!

Trees don’t grow that fast so find a spot where you can see it and if it does not rain give it a little water every now and then.  If you don’t have a big yard, put the little tree in a little flower pot and when it starts to grow you can move it to a bigger pot.

Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft  said, “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year, but underestimate what they can do in a decade.  As a result they burn out and give up.”  So plant the tree and watch it grow along with you. Maybe one day you will be able to have a kid of your own and tell them the story of your Earth Day Tree.

Best regards,

Dr.  Jerry Simon
Founder of
Dental Care Stamford, Dental Care Kids
& Dental Care Orthodontics

Last month for Earth Day, we did an Earth Day Giveaway. There were 9 lucky winners who received a live tree seedling along with this letter from Dr. Simon. Congratulations to the Earth Day Giveaway Winners! Plant those trees and watch them grow!

Since our winners were so thrilled with their prizes and started planting right away, Dr. Simon decided to buy some more seedlings to give away to additional patients and he also planted some trees with his granddaughters over Mother’s Day Weekend. Whether you can give a little or a lot, doing what you can, makes a huge difference!

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

We know choosing the right dental practice for your child can be a challenging task. You want to have the best when it comes to your child.  That is why you should only bring them to a PEDIATRIC dentist with a Dentist who specializes in pediatrics dentistry, not just any general dentist.

As dental experts that have been in this industry for a long time we have noticed an increase in adults developing a negative relationship with Dentistry. The top reason that people hate the dentist is because of fear. There was a bad experience in the past, most likely as a child and now as adults it affects how they view the dentist.

At Dental Care Kids we have designed our dental practice specifically to help children build positive dental experiences early on so as they grow up they will not fear the dentist. Although we have everything taken care of to have a fun and child-friendly environment at the dentist, we still need your help to keep your child’s smiles healthy between visits. So below are 5 ways we recommend will help to encourage healthier smiles at home.

1. Establish Healthy Dental Routines Early, then Stick With It:

We know it is not the easiest thing to get children to remember to brush their teeth. So by starting the process early, it will help them to improve their habits as they grow up. Here are some steps to help with the process.

First: What is a healthy dental routine:

  • Brush for 2 Minutes, In the Morning and at Night
  • Floss at least once a Day

Second: We recommend making brushing a fun activity.
Here are some suggestions:

  • Do it together. That way you are also helping your teeth.
  • Put on your favorite song that is 2 mins long to brush to.
  • Dance while brushing and flossing
  • Watch a 2min Disney or Pixar short

Third: Explain why it is so important to brush and floss every day.
If you need help on what to say call us and we will be happy to help you out. And at your next visit we can also help explain.

2. Make Going to the Dentist Fun

    • Show them that going to the dentist is not a scary place.
      • Show them pictures and videos of the office before you go.
      • Follow us on instagram and Facebook. (@dckstamford) We have lots of fun videos and pictures
    • Remind them they will receive a prize and balloons after their visit. It will be something they can look forward to.
    • Let them bring their favorite toy or stuffed animal with them to their visit.
    • Some patients love to dress up to go to their visit.
    • If you are fearful, try to avoid telling them that.

3. Maintain A Healthy Diet

Be mindful of how much sugar is in the food or drinks. Eating or drinking lots of sugar can lead to cavities and tooth decay.  We recommend healthy snacks such as:
  • Apples,
  • Nuts,
  • Cheese
  • Plain yogurt
  • Watch out for snacks and drinks that have added sugars

4. Keep up with Regular Dental Checkups

Going to regular dental checkups is important to maintain a healthy smile. At every Dental visit, we make sure your child’s teeth are cavity free developing properly, AND by keeping up with regular dental check ups, it also builds a routine.
  • The more they go to the dentist, the more comfortable they will be.
  • The repetition of going to the dentist every six months is instilled when they are younger, the more likely they will continue it as they get older.
  • They will get excited to go to the dentist because they get to share with us what they have been up-to for the past six months, plus get prizes, and balloons!

5. Make learning about good dental health with fun activity worksheets

Learning about good and bad dental health is a good way to get children to understand how important their smiles are to their overall health. With fun activity worksheets they learn while playing games. To get you started we provided 2 Fun Free Downloadable, “National Children’s Dental Health Month” Activities Sheets provide by The American Dental Association. (download below) If they enjoyed those so much, we have more FREE downloadable worksheets located here: https://dentalcarekids.com/kids-activities/

What to do if your child has a dental emergency

Being Prepared is Key!

With school back in session, so are after-school sports. Accidents can happen while playing any sport. It is hard to predict whether or not today is the day your child might get hit in the face with a ball.  For a parent, seeing a child break or lose a tooth in an accident can be extremely alarming. And of course it can be very traumatic for the child as well. While it is important to be able to prevent dental injuries in the first place, knowing what to do in case an accident occurs can save your child’s teeth as well as reduce the stress of such a situation. It does not always happen, but on the off chance that it does we are here to help you be as prepared as possible.

First, if your child does have a dental injury:

Don’t panic! In case of an accidental tooth injury, try to remain calm. Call us right away, we have a 24/7 Dental Emergency hotline. One of our on-call dentists will pick up to help you.  Call 203-409-8834.

Secondly, let’s get you prepared:

As a parent, it is important to make sure that you are prepared before an accident even occurs. An ounce of prevention of course is best. But in the event of an accident, a quick and proper response can make all the difference. We have put together a list of ways to help you become better prepared for all your child’s activities.

5 Ways to Be Better Prepared In Case of a Dental Emergency:

Sec. 1: Preventing Accidents before they occur

1. How to Prevent Dental Injuries:

Watch out for situations that commonly lead to injury. Some of the more common ones are:

  • To name a few: Prevent accidents by wearing seat belts, watch out for slippery spots where water drips and for smaller kids- put bumpers on corners of tables.
  • Trips and Falls – Most likely to occur when children are first learning to stand using furniture to maintain balance. If you have an infant make sure to child-proof your home before they become mobile, usually around 12 – 16 months.
  • Water Fountains – Often kids injure teeth by banging them into the spout of water fountains as they drink. Sometimes kids behind them accidentally bump into them causing them to injure their teeth.
  • Drinking From A Glass or Bottle – Paper or plastic cups are much safer, especially in cars.

Always Wear Mouthguards While Playing Sports:

The best way to prevent a dental emergency is to properly protect your child. Dentists are recommending that children engaged in ANY sports should always wear mouthguards. Not only do mouthguards protect you from biting your tongue, they also protect your teeth, lips, gums, and cheeks.

We recommend having extra backups so you will always have some while playing sports. At least one of their mouthguards should be Dentist-made because they are custom made to your child’s mouth. These mouthguards fit more securely against the teeth affording the best protection.

Sec. 2: What to do if there is a dental injury

2. What to do when your child’s tooth is knocked out:

CALL US IMMEDIATELY! The chances for saving the tooth is a very time sensitive event. If the tooth that is knocked out is an adult tooth, the opportunity to replace it and have it last long term goes down after as little as one hour after the accident. If a dentist is seen within one hour after an accident, chances are good that the tooth can be re-implanted and saved.

If it is a baby tooth that is knocked out, place it under your child’s pillow for the tooth fairy. Unfortunately, a baby tooth is not replaceable because it may cause damage to the developing adult tooth. If it is a baby tooth, please still call us to make an appointment so we can make sure that there was no other damages during the accident.

3. Should you rinse the tooth off with water:

NO DO NOT RINSE TOOTH OFF WITH WATER. Instead, if you can, push it back into the socket immediately. To be sure that you have it in correctly, make sure that it matches the adjacent tooth and have the child bite together and be sure the teeth fit together normally.  If you cannot get it back in, you must keep it wet. Here are 3 possible solutions we recommend to keep the tooth wet until you see a dentist:

  1. If possible, use Hank’s Balanced Solution–– a special liquid that simulates natural body fluids and is designed for this emergency. You should ask that the nurses’ office at school as well as sports teams keep a bottle of this solution on hand for emergencies.
  2. Milk is the next best solution to place the tooth into.
  3. Or if you do not have access to 1 or 2, actually placing the tooth in your child’s mouth is the next best thing. The saliva in your mouth actually helps to preserve the tooth.

Water is the worst solution and should be avoided, although anything is better than letting the tooth dry out. Then, see a dentist immediately. The sooner the tooth gets put back in the greater the likelihood is that the tooth can be retained.

4. What should you do when your child’s tooth is Broken:

The first thing is to save the broken part of the tooth in case it can be used in the repair of the damaged tooth. Keep it moist as mentioned above. With chipped teeth the situation is more complicated. If your child is experiencing pain or sensitivity in the affected tooth, see a dentist immediately as this indicates that the tooth nerve may be injured. The dentist can perform a root canal or other necessary procedure to save the tooth. Afterwards, a porcelain crown or bonding material can be sculpted onto the tooth to replace the lost portion.

If there is no pain or sensitivity, the situation is not as critical. You should call your dentist to double check, but in most cases, you can simply schedule a future appointment to repair or replace the lost portion of the tooth.

5. My Child’s wires/brackets on their braces broke, do I need to get it fixed?

Professional help is needed to fix or replace broken or loose braces or wires or the teeth may not move correctly.  That requires an orthodontic visit.  Until then, you can cover the broken or sharp wire or brace with some dental wax or try to remove the loose end of the broken part. Make an appointment as soon as possible, especially if the wire is poking the inside of their mouth.

Not all accidents happen while playing sports. If you have concerns or questions please call us! We have same day appointments available, and a dental emergency hotline available after hours. We understand emergencies can be alarming, so give us a call, we are here for you! 203-409-8834

Healthy Dental Tips for the Holiday Season

Tis’ the season to be jolly! It’s that time of year for making gingerbread houses, sipping on hot chocolate and eating candy canes. Even our team has a sweet tooth around this time of year. So we can understand wanting to chomp down on a perfectly baked sugar cookie now and then. AND you and your family should be able to enjoy your holiday season full of treats!

So here are 5 Dental Tips you can do with your child to help prevent cavities during the holidays:

1. Don’t skip brushing or flossing for either you or your child:

It is easy to want to skip brushing sometimes, especially around the holidays.  It gets very busy this time of year with all the running around and maybe your child falls asleep on the ride home from a holiday party so you put them to bed right away before brushing. Unfortunately, cavities don’t go on vacation.  When sugar sits on your teeth for too long, it turns into acid and the acid eats away at your tooth enamel. Once it’s gone, there is no turning back and it could lead to cavities, infections and worse! So don’t forget to brush and floss!

2. Make eating fruit and vegetables fun:

We know that getting your child (and sometimes adults too) to eat vegetables and fruits is not always the easiest task. But what if they were shaped like a snowman or reindeer! That would make it fun to eat for everyone. (images below do not belong to us) WIth all the  sugar that gets consumed this time of year, it is important to equally eat fruit and vegetables too.

3. Brush before and after snacking

A lot easier said than done, we know! But if you are all extra proactive with your dental health now, you are more likely to avoid tooth decay and cavities. The less time sugary and acidic foods sit on your teeth the better!

  • By brushing before snacking you give your teeth a clean surface so less food sticks to your teeth
  • By brushing after snacking you remove any remaining food that was stuck before it has time to start causing damage to your teeth.

4. Drink lots of water!

There are so many delicious options for beverages during the holidays. Although they are very delicious, we must remember to still drink water too. Your body needs it and your teeth appreciate it. Water not only is needed for your overall health, but it also helps wash away remaining sugar and food still on your teeth.

5. Last but not least: Schedule A Dental Cleaning- Together

We have same day appointments available for both you and your child(ren). For everyone with Dental Insurance, December is the last chance to use up all remaining dental benefits before they expire forever. So if you have any unused dental benefits or flex spending now is the chance to use it. Regardless if you have insurance or not, it’s still a good idea to get a dental cleaning before the end of the year. Wrap up the year with a fresh clean smile!
